Bridge of la Cabreta

“The Pont de la Cabrita is a bridge over the river Freser that connects the municipalities of Campdevànol and Ribes de Freser. The bridge can be seen on the way from Campdevànol in Ribes de Freser, when the valley starts to get bigger, after passing the Herand neighborhood, on the left hand side.

It formed part of the old royal way that went from Ripoll in la Cerdaña. Before the Barcelona road in Puigcerdá was built, the Pont de la Cabrita had to be crossed by all walkers going to la Cerdaña. It is thought that it had been built by Count Oliba Cabrita Y de la Cerdaña y de Besalú.

The bridge is double winged and 53 m long.

The main arcade is 23 metres long and stretches 13 m above the river. The Romanesque part of this bridge dates from the 11th century and, overall, the oldest part is preserved at the end of the eastern stirrup and above all the west band, where we can still see a Romanesque arcade. The pont de la Cabrita has undergone several reconstructions and transformations. The central arcade, which is 23 metres long and stretches 13 metres above the current water level, was redone in modern times, certainly because the Romanesque arcade had been sunk due to a storm.

11th century bridge over the river Freser, old passage of all walkers going to la Cerdaña.”
