The Met de Ribes, protagonist of the new tourist proposal of the municipality of Ribes de Freser

Met de Ribes is inspired by the story of Met (diminutive of Jaume), who was a vagabond in the Ribes valley. According to legend, he lived at the end of the 19th century in a hut far from the town center, near the Capdevila fountain. He sporadically visited the town of Ribes to collect leftover food and rubbish, which at that time was neither recycled nor put in a container, but was thrown into the rivers with impunity. A flood surprised the poor vagabond, who went downstream. Neighbors, watching as the current carried him away, asked him what he was doing or what was happening, and he replied, with the peace of mind of the poor and free men, that he was “doing well.”
The Met de Ribes is a character and a philosophy of life, based on calm, contemplation and tolerance and that fits very well with the current tourist strategy of the Ribes valley. In short, it is a story that responds to the mood of the people in the area.
