In the Catalan Pyrenees in Girona you will find very authentic villages with a great rural character, all of them surrounded by spectacular mountain landscapes and with a captivating cultural, natural and gastronomic wealth.
There are many charming villages and towns in the Catalan Pyrenees located in the Ripollès region. Today, we propose a 5-day route to discover some of these villages: Gombrèn, Ogassa, Ventolà, Planoles, Tregurà and Beget. With this route we discover the villages of the southern part and the entrance to the Ripollès, and then continue to the northern parts of the region where we gain altitude: Vall de Ribes and Vall de Camprodon. Pack your bags and come and get to know the Ripollès!
We climb up to the Montgrony Sanctuary, perched on a cliff with magnificent views. A place full of spirituality and nature to start the day with calm and beauty.
One of the balconies of the Ripollès region, the area around Gombrèn is where the myth of Count Arnau was forged. There are also excellent hiking routes to follow, such as the Route between the old parishes of Gombrèn, Campdevànol and Les Lloses or the Camí Ral, a historic communication route that linked the municipality with Campdevànol and Ripoll.
We start the day visiting the Mining Museum and the coal mines of Ogassa, a museum space that allows us to learn about the mining history and the social transformation of the region.
After lunch, to digest the food, we can follow the circular route along the wagon tracks, a route along which the wagons loaded with coal from the Ogassa mines used to travel to the inclined plane of Toralles, from where we can go down to the old railway station of Sant Joan de les Abadesses. An itinerary to discover the mining heritage and the old cement factories.
We head for Ventolà, a small, panoramic village, and visit the church of Sant Cristòfol de Ventolà. In Ventolà we could also go on foot to Ribes de Freser, or simply enjoy the peace and quiet and the views of the Ribes Valley.

We discover the old town of Planoles, visit the church of Sant Vicenç and stroll around the surrounding area. This is a very popular area due to its springs and the quality of its natural environment. Ripollès Turisme offers you a two-hour route to discover the springs located around the municipality.

The day begins with a visit to the church of Sant Julià de Tregurà, in Villalonga de Ter, which dates back to the 10th century and offers impressive views of the Camprodon Valley. The more adventurous can climb one of the most spectacular peaks in the Catalan Pyrenees, the Balandrau, whose views leave you speechless.
Still in Villalonga de Ter you can visit the Drac, a route along the Camino de las Roquetas, which is adorned with metal sculptures. The path leads to the Mirador del Drac, where there is an imposing sculpture of a dragon. A unique experience that combines nature, art and legend.

On the last day, on our way back, we visit Beget, one of the most charming villages in the Catalan Pyrenees. There we can visit the Romanesque church of Sant Cristòfol and the carving of the Majesty of Beget. The cobbled streets will make you feel like you are in a living postcard.

Beget offers peace, history and a homemade gastronomy to savour without haste. Stroll around and enjoy every last corner.
